As Škoda’s electric range continues to develop, the Elroq enters the scene with a strategic positioning: more compact than the Enyaq, but just as ambitious.
This C-segment SUV lays the foundations for a new era for the Czech manufacturer, with a clear promise: to offer a genuine electric alternative, without compromising on range or interior space.
A renewed identity
First visual contact, and already a break with the thermal! Like its big brother, the Enyaq, the Škoda Elroq stands out clearly from the rest of the brand. Its redesigned, more vertical front end features a full radiator grille, a clear nod to electrification and the Modern Solid styling signature. The Škoda logo has been replaced by lettering on the bonnet, while high-mounted LED daytime running lights and Matrix LED headlights (on higher versions) enhance its modern look. The main difference with the Enyaq is the absence of the light bar linking the two daytime running lights and a slightly revised design for the lower part of the bumper.
With its well-balanced dimensions – 4.49 m long, 1.88 m wide and 1.63 m high – the Elroq manages to combine charisma and practicality. Its sculpted bonnet, distinctive flanks and 19 to 21 inch wheels give it a strong presence, while remaining compact enough for urban use. Škoda has also paid particular attention to aerodynamics, with a coefficient of drag (Cx) of 0.26, achieved thanks to ingenious details such as streamlined rear-view mirrors and air intakes on the bumper to channel airflow around the wheels. The result is elegant, well thought-out and a real success.
Simplicity and efficiency at Škoda
The interior of the Elroq remains faithful to the pragmatic spirit of the brand. The dashboard is minimalist but well constructed, with materials that are pleasant to the touch and well put together. The central 13″ touchscreen is perfectly legible, while a 5″ digital screen behind the steering wheel provides the essential driving information. Although this screen may seem small, the head-up display makes up for it by offering all the details needed for comfortable driving.
Škoda sets itself apart by avoiding the all-touch approach: shortcut keys located under the central screen provide quick access to settings for the climate control, driving modes and other essential functions. A real bonus in this age of touch-screen technology! The slightly raised driving position offers excellent forward visibility, thanks to the slim windscreen pillars and well-designed side windows. At the rear, passengers enjoy generous legroom and comfortable headroom, even for adults. Although the seating position is slightly elevated, it remains pleasant. Our test model includes some useful options for an electric vehicle: a heat pump to optimise energy consumption in winter and a winter pack with heated seats, reducing the need to heat the entire cabin in moderate temperatures.
In terms of storage space, the boot has a capacity of 470 litres, which can be extended to 1,580 litres with the rear seats folded down. A more than satisfactory figure for this category.
The Czech SUV offers a wealth of technological equipment: wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, head-up display (optional), driving aids such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistant, 360° camera and a Canton audio system (available in the MAXX pack). Škoda remains true to its DNA with a host of practical features: an umbrella integrated into the door, storage nets, hooks and various clever storage spaces. So many details that demonstrate a real sense of ergonomics and everyday practicality.
Under the body, a familiar technical base
Based on the Volkswagen Group’s famous MEB platform, the Škoda Elroq 85 packs an NMC (Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt) battery with a gross capacity of 82 kWh, giving a useful 77 kWh. This configuration gives it a range of 542 to 581 km, depending on the WLTP cycle and the versions chosen. In terms of powertrains, the Elroq 85 is equipped with an electric motor positioned on the front axle, delivering 285 bhp (210 kW) and a generous torque of 545 Nm. This power translates into rapid acceleration, particularly at low revs, where the instant torque of the electric motor works wonders.
The Elroq offers a driving experience that is both smooth and reassuring. Its low centre of gravity and balanced weight distribution ensure exemplary roadholding, while maintaining a high level of comfort, true to the Škoda philosophy. The precision of the steering and the quietness of operation contribute to a pleasant driving experience, whether on city journeys or over long distances. When it comes to recharging, the Elroq accepts up to 175 kW from a direct current (DC) terminal, enabling it to go from 10% to 80% in half an hour from a fast terminal. A great performance for long journeys. For home charging or charging at an alternating current (AC) point, the charge is at 11 kW and takes 8 hours.
Nothing too extravagant, but well thought-out versatility for everyday use.
On the road, comfortable and efficient
The Elroq isn’t designed to be a track beast. Its real objective, which it fulfils perfectly, is to offer a calm, stable and silent ride. The soundproofing is remarkable, while the meticulous work on the suspension ensures good comfort, whether in town or on secondary roads. In dynamic driving, the chassis remains balanced and reassuring, although the Elroq clearly shows a preference for smooth, relaxed journeys rather than mountain passes.
The SUV is equipped with Adaptive Chassis Control (ACC), allowing driving modes to be adjusted via a shortcut button under the central screen. The Elroq also features a ‘One Pedal’ mode (B mode) that works efficiently, offering easy-to-meter energy recovery. For greater precision, paddles on the steering wheel can be used to increase or reduce regeneration on demand. Finally, with a turning circle of just 9 m, the Elroq is particularly manoeuvrable, whether you’re navigating narrow streets or parking with ease.
Škoda has hit the nail on the head with the Elroq. Its compact size and competitive price positioning should make it easy to find an audience, especially as the electric range in the compact SUV segment is still limited. Without being revolutionary, this modern, coherent and well-designed SUV ticks all the right boxes.
