Karting is often seen as a gateway to motor racing. Accessible, spectacular and educational, it attracts many enthusiasts every year. But behind the thrills lies a very real financial reality. Here is a detailed estimate of the cost of competitive karting.
Equipment and initial investment
First of all, a new competition kart will cost between 4,500 E and 8,000 E, depending on the category (Rotax, X30, KZ, etc.) and the brand. A certified used model will allow you to make considerable savings, as it will cost between 1,500 E and 5,000 E. That said, buying a used kart means you will need to be vigilant about the condition of the engine and chassis. It is also recommended that you consult an expert before purchasing a used model.
To transport and maintain your kart, you can purchase a closed trailer for between 1,000 E and 3,000 E. Basic tools (jack, torque wrenches, compressors, etc.) will require a minimum investment of 1,000 E and can cost up to 2,500 E.
Driver’s clothing
To drive safely, approved and complete clothing is essential. A helmet, for example, can cost between 300 and 500 E, while a suit can be purchased for an average of 325 euros.
For accessories, allow between 70 and 150 E for gloves, 100-200 for boots and finally between 150 and 600 E for rib protectors. All these items bring the minimum cost of an outfit to 800 E, with a maximum price of around 2,000 E.
Betriebskosten und Verbrauchsmaterialien
Zu diesen Fixkosten kommen Betriebskosten hinzu, die von der Nutzungshäufigkeit und der Art der verwendeten Ausrüstung abhängen. So kostet eine Fahrt beispielsweise durchschnittlich 20 Euro für Kraftstoff und Motoröl. Der Reifenwechsel kostet 200 Euro. Insgesamt belaufen sich die Kosten für Reifen und Kraftstoff auf bis zu 2000 Euro pro Jahr. Die Anreise zu den Rennstrecken, einschließlich Fahrtkosten, Unterkunft und Verpflegung, kann zwischen 250 und 1000 Euro pro Rennen kosten.
Schließlich fällt für jedes Rennen eine Anmeldegebühr zwischen 265 und 450 Euro an, zu der noch der jährliche Beitrag der FFSA hinzukommt, dessen Preis bis zu 400 Euro betragen kann.
Insgesamt kostet eine Kart-Rennsaison mindestens durchschnittlich 11.500 Euro, wobei die Obergrenze bei etwa 30.000 Euro liegt.
