Since its launch in 1986, the BMW M3 has been a true symbol of automotive performance. With the sixth generation of the M3, BMW is continuing its tradition of excellence while pushing the boundaries of engineering. Equipped with a 510 hp inline six-cylinder engine and 650 Nm of torque, this sports saloon combines raw power, precise control and an unrivalled driving experience.

Body: the synthesis of lightness and rigidity

The design of the BMW M3 Competition’s body embodies a perfect balance between dynamic performance, aerodynamics, rigidity and lightness. To achieve this, BMW has used a combination of lightweight materials, reducing weight without compromising structural strength.

The carbon fibre roof helps lower the centre of gravity, improving handling and driving feel. Every element of the body has been carefully designed to optimise aerodynamics: the large front air intakes, the sculpted rear diffuser and the discreet spoiler on the boot work together to enhance stability at high speeds. The quad exhaust pipes, harmoniously integrated into the diffuser, add a touch of sportiness.

The air intakes are not just for looks or aerodynamics: they also meet the technical requirements of the engine, ensuring efficient cooling and optimal air supply.

The front of the M3 Competition stands out with its wide grille, sculpted bonnet and new M Shadow Line headlights, giving it a decidedly aggressive look. From the side, the wheel arch extensions and light alloy wheels further emphasise its sporty, muscular character.

Interior: luxury and technology in harmony

The interior of the M3 Competition reflects a perfect harmony between luxury, sportiness and technology.

The BMW Individual bucket seats in Merino leather with reinforced side supports guarantee exceptional support during dynamic driving, while offering excellent comfort on long journeys. The new M steering wheel, thicker than in phase 1, is equipped with carbon fibre shift paddles and buttons for customisable driving modes, adding a refined and functional touch to the driving experience.

The carbon finishes on the dashboard and centre console reinforce the sporty character, while the customisable ambient lighting creates an immersive atmosphere. In the centre of the console is a gear lever and a set of controls for configuring driving and infotainment settings.

In phase 2, BMW has changed the dashboard and now incorporates the BMW Curved Display system, displayed on a large curved screen divided into two parts: a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch central touchscreen. This system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In the rear, the seats offer a good level of comfort, although the centre seat is more cramped. However, passengers benefit from USB sockets and individual temperature controls, making the space pleasant even on longer journeys. The boot offers a capacity of 480 litres, which is more than enough, but it’s a shame that it’s not a tailgate.

Finally, the Harman Kardon audio system with 16 speakers guarantees exceptional sound immersion.

The engine: an engineering gem

At the heart of this BMW M3 Competition is the S58 engine. This 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine, derived from the proven architecture of the famous B58, embodies BMW engineering excellence. Optimised by BMW Motorsport, it represents the pinnacle of performance and innovation.

Built around an aluminium engine block, the S58 combines light weight with structural rigidity. Its forged crankshaft, designed to withstand extreme loads, ensures exceptional durability, while its lightweight pistons and 350 bar high-pressure injection system ensure optimum fuel atomisation for faster and more efficient engine response. This engine also benefits from Valvetronic (variable valve timing) and Double VANOS (variable valve timing) technologies, maximising flexibility and performance.

The S58 features M TwinPower Turbo High Performance technology, consisting of two single-scroll turbochargers, each feeding three cylinders. This configuration minimises response time while maintaining a constant air flow, delivering linear and progressive power. An advanced thermal management system, including high-performance adaptive cooling and an optimised oil circuit, ensures optimum performance, even under the extreme stresses of intensive use.

The engine develops 510 hp at 6,250 rpm and maximum torque of 650 Nm, available across a wide rev range between 2,750 and 5,730 rpm. These figures translate into spectacular performance: acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h or 290 km/h with the M Driver’s Package.

Driving sensations: a benchmark in its class

The M3 Competition is much more than just a high-performance car. Weighing 1,800 kg without hybridisation, it redefines the standards for driving pleasure and agility.

Equipped with the M Steptronic eight-speed automatic transmission with Drivelogic, adaptive M suspension and a differential, this rear-wheel-drive M3 Competition offers an authentic driving experience. Its double-jointed front axle and five-link rear axle ensure dynamic, balanced and reassuring handling, while offering a good level of comfort, depending on the driving mode selected.

The power steering impresses with its exceptional precision.

Whether for urban manoeuvres or sporty driving on winding roads, the response is both immediate and natural, reinforcing the connection between driver and car.

The optional M Compound braking system with ventilated discs and six-piston calipers at the front ensures progressive braking power and remarkable endurance, even under intensive use.

The driving modes are fully customisable, allowing the suspension, steering, transmission and engine response settings to be adjusted to suit the driver’s preferences. In addition, integrated shortcut buttons on the steering wheel provide quick access to favourite settings, avoiding any distraction from using the displays.

Conclusion

The BMW M3 Competition is a true demonstration of Bavarian technical expertise and craftsmanship. With its powerful engine, optimised body design, luxurious interior and unrivalled driving experience, it sets the benchmark in the sports saloon segment. Whether for a day on the track or a getaway on winding roads, the M3 Competition offers an experience that is sure to delight driving enthusiasts.
