With its mischievous look, ultra-compact dimensions and promising technical specifications, the Hyundai Inster is set to shake up the small electric city car segment. Together with our partner LuxGears, discover the full test drive of this electric model measuring less than 4 metres. Design, interior space, equipment, driving, fuel consumption… we cover it all! So, is it just another alternative or a real revolution?

LuxGears took the wheel of the Hyundai Inster, the Korean manufacturer’s new 100% electric model. Positioned in the A segment, this 3.82 m high city car is aimed at urban customers looking for a compact, practical and affordable vehicle. With a starting price of around €21,997, it is a direct rival to the Citroën ë-C3 and Renault 5 E-Tech.

Model history

The Inster is derived from the Casper, a mini combustion-engine city car sold in Korea. Hyundai has redesigned the model for Europe, electrifying it and equipping it with technologies from higher segments. This launch is part of the manufacturer’s strategy to democratise electric mobility, already well established with the Ioniq 5 and 6.

With its rounded lines, pixelated LED lights and mini-crossover proportions, the Inster has a look that is both appealing and modern. Inside, the ambience is refined: two 10.25-inch screens, high-quality materials, a sliding bench seat and plenty of storage space. The space is surprisingly generous for this category, especially in the rear.
