For decades, Porsche has embodied the very essence of automotive performance. With the launch of its first all-electric Macan, the German brand is reaffirming its commitment to a sustainable future without compromising its sporting DNA.

A silhouette faithful to Porsche elegance

The design of the new Porsche Macan 4 embodies a subtle but significant evolution from its predecessor. More imposing than the previous combustion-powered generation, the Macan 4 is now 4.78 m long (+6 cm), 1.94 m wide (+1 cm) and has a wheelbase extended to 2.89 m (+8.6 cm) to accommodate the battery. At the front, the Macan 4 is distinguished by a minimalist grille replaced by a smooth, sculpted panel typical of electric vehicles, accompanied by a deeply sloping bonnet. The air intakes at the bottom of the front bumper, in addition to their aesthetic role, ensure optimal cooling of the batteries, motor and other electrical components. The slimmer LED headlights feature a unique light signature consisting of four horizontal LED bars that are immediately recognisable. This ensemble gives the front end an aggressive and resolutely modern look. The muscular, sculpted sides of the vehicle reinforce the model’s sporty character. The wider wheel arches highlight the 20-inch alloy wheels, emphasising the athletic and robust stance.

The roof line slopes down towards the rear, creating a fastback silhouette that accentuates the visual dynamism of the Macan. At the rear, the vehicle features a LED light strip running across the entire width, an iconic Porsche signature. An active spoiler, subtly integrated into the bodywork, improves stability and handling.

The redesigned diffuser, with no exhaust tailpipes, emphasizes the model’s electric identity. Thanks to this new generation, the drag coefficient (Cx) has been reduced from 0.35 to 0.25, a significant improvement that promotes energy efficiency.

A flawless interior?

Porsche excels in the art of designing interiors of exceptional quality, and the new electric Macan 4 is no exception. The interior perfectly combines luxury and sportiness. As soon as the door opens, you discover a fully digital dashboard, without the traditional hood that characterised previous Porsche models. In front of the driver is a customisable 12.9-inch screen, offering an immersive visual experience. In the centre, the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) infotainment system, equipped with a 10.9-inch screen, integrates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The centre console intuitively groups the ventilation and climate controls.

Communication Management (PCM) system, equipped with a 10.9-inch screen, integrates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. The centre console intuitively groups together the ventilation and air conditioning controls, as well as a dedicated sound adjustment button, a practical solution to avoid constantly manipulating the main screen. Every interior detail has been carefully considered: the door panels and dashboard are finished in extensive leather, enhancing the feeling of refinement. However, a few hard plastic elements remain, which

may come as a surprise in a vehicle of this standing. The sports seats, which are adjustable in multiple directions, offer impeccable comfort and excellent support. The steering wheel features a dial that allows you to switch between different driving modes with ease. In the rear, passengers enjoy generous space, and the flat floor, made possible by the battery-integrated platform, further enhances their comfort. With a boot capacity of 540 litres at the rear and an 84-litre frunk at the front, the electric Macan is perfectly suited to family getaways or long journeys. The frunk, which is the small boot at the front, is ideal for storing the charging cable and other small items. It is nevertheless regrettable that the 360° camera, which is so practical for manoeuvring, is not offered as standard. Similarly, the absence of adaptive cruise control, now standard on many manufacturers’ models, leaves something to be desired.

An electric architecture made in the EU

The electric Macan 4 is equipped with a battery with a gross capacity of 100 kWh, powering two synchronous permanent magnet electric motors, one positioned at the front and the other at the rear. Together, these motors deliver 387 hp, rising to 408 hp with the Overboost function. Despite its considerable weight of 2.4 tonnes, the instantaneous torque of 650 Nm, transmitted by a single-speed gearbox, enables the Macan to reach 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds thanks to Launch Control, which is still well below Porsche’s ‘standards’. In terms of range, the vehicle can travel between 516 and 612 km according to the WLTP cycle, with energy consumption between 17.9 and 21.1 kWh/100 km. On the charging side, the Macan 4 is based on the 800V PPE platform, the result of a collaboration between Porsche and Audi. This architecture allows it to accept DC charging power of up to 270 kW at a fast charging station. This makes it possible to recharge 80% of the battery in less than 25 minutes, making long journeys particularly convenient.

With alternating current (AC), the integrated charger supports a power output of 11 kW, making charging at home easier. When driving, the characteristic silence of electric motors is preserved, with the exception of a carefully crafted artificial sound.

The handling of a Porsche

Although the Macan 4 is electrified, it retains the dynamic DNA that has made Porsche famous. Equipped with several driving modes that can be selected via a dial on the steering wheel, it stands out for its remarkable versatility.

In Normal mode, acceleration is smooth, without the ‘on-off’ effect often criticised in some electric vehicles. In Sport mode, on the other hand, acceleration becomes significantly livelier, pressing the occupants deep into their seats. Off-Road mode allows you to venture confidently onto rough terrain thanks to hill descent control, thus expanding the vehicle’s range of uses. Regardless of the mode selected, performance remains good and almost makes you forget the SUV’s 2.4 tonnes. For those who want even more dynamism, the optional controlled shock absorbers enhance the sporty feel. Thanks to its low centre of gravity and excellent weight distribution, cornering is exemplary. Braking, in keeping with Porsche standards, is powerful, precise and reassuring. The pedal feel is particularly pleasant, offering immediate responsiveness and avoiding the need to press too hard. However, the lack of adjustment for regenerative braking is regrettable, as this accelerates brake wear.

The future of Porsche?

The all-electric Porsche Macan 4 is not just a simple addition to the brand’s range: it marks a real turning point in its history. This is the first time that Porsche has transformed a combustion engine model into an all-electric version, thus affirming its clear intention to combine performance, design and electrification. Mit diesem Modell beweist die Marke, dass Elektroantrieb Leidenschaft und Emotionen bedeuten kann, ohne Kompromisse bei der sportlichen DNA, die sie berühmt gemacht hat.
