1935
The Tour de Luxembourg was created in 1935. From its inception until the early 1980s, the race was mainly dominated by Luxembourgish, Belgian, French and Dutch riders such as Charly Gaul, Charly Gaul, Louison Bobet and Freddy Martens. It was not until the early 1980s that the race became international and Russian, Swiss and Danish riders began to win.
2005
In 2005, the Tour de Luxembourg became the Škoda Tour de Luxembourg and the popular car brand has been a partner of the event ever since. In 2020, the Škoda Tour Luxembourg is moving up a level and entering the ProSeries division (the second division of world cycling).

This year, the Škoda Tour will consist of five stages, including a time trial. The start will take place at Knuedler in Luxembourg. The Tour will pass through Remich, Mamer, Mertert, Vianden, Niederanven and Mersch. The finish will be in Limpertsberg, Luxembourg.

The Tour de Luxembourg has four distinctive jerseys: the yellow jersey for the general classification, the blue jersey for the points classification, the green jersey for the best climber, and the white jersey for the best young rider.

In the 2024 edition, the riders shared just under £65,000 in victory bonuses. According to the official Škoda Tour prize table, a stage victory earns €3,615 and €9,037 for the overall classification victory. The top 20 riders are rewarded. The prizes are degressive according to the places. The three other distinctive jerseys earn €1,000. However, only the top four in the distinctive jersey classifications are rewarded.

The 2025 Škoda Tour de Luxembourg will bring together a prestigious field of 20 cycling teams, including 8 WorldTeams, 7 UCI ProTeams, 4 UCI Continental teams and a Luxembourg national selection. Among the headliners are renowned teams such as UAE Team Emirates, Soudal – Quick-Step, Lidl-Trek and Groupama – FDJ, alongside ambitious teams such as TotalEnergies, Uno-X and Tudor Pro Cycling Team.
The presence of the Luxembourg national team adds a local dimension to this international competition, which promises to be particularly challenging. Each team will field six riders, ensuring a dense and competitive peloton on the hilly roads of the Grand Duchy.
