The Macan 4 impresses with its bold styling, build quality and typical Porsche performance, while revealing the compromises associated with its all-electric platform.
The new electric Porsche Macan 4, in its Macan S version, is undergoing comprehensive testing that highlights the brand’s ambitions in the premium electric SUV segment. The test, conducted in inclement weather conditions, offers an authentic immersion into the world of the electric Macan, with a trip to Stuttgart accompanied by a Porsche 911 Cabrio.
The exterior design of the Macan 4 impresses with its dynamic lines, 21-inch wheels and 3D rear lights inspired by the 911. Inside, Porsche has opted for a more minimalist approach, dispensing with some traditional elements such as the dashboard visor. The cockpit remains ergonomic, although the steering wheel adjustment range could be improved. In the rear, space is generous and the seats are well contoured, while the air conditioning system offers precise and customisable settings.
On the road, the Macan 4 impresses with its quietness, responsiveness and handling, thanks to a ‘cap forward’ architecture that
promotes a sporty driving position. Equipped with an 800V electrical system and a battery close to 100 kWh, the SUV has a theoretical range of 500 km, reduced to around 400 km in real-world motorway use. The test also revealed the limitations of the charging infrastructure, with fast charging stations sometimes failing, although Enrive stations provided efficient charging.
Despite a few compromises related to electrification – notably soundproofing that could be improved and seats considered too firm for a non-sporty model – the Macan 4 stands out as a coherent and attractive proposition. It embodies Porsche’s transition to electric power without compromising the brand’s fundamentals: quality, performance and driving pleasure.
