The future electric berlinette makes its first public appearance at the Festival of Speed, from 9 to 12 July.
The next Alpine A110 is turning its first wheels in front of a British crowd. At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Dieppe-based brand is presenting the development mule for the third generation of its iconic sports car, named A110 FUTURE. The name reflects its role in fine-tuning the future model, and the prototype is the centrepiece of the most ambitious presence Alpine has ever staged at the event. Visitors can see it in action every day from 9 to 12 July.
Behind this test vehicle lies a considerable ambition. The third-generation A110 aims to become the market’s first true 100 per cent electric sports car. It will sit on the all-new Alpine Performance Platform (APP), designed to stay true to the brand’s DNA while outperforming today’s best petrol-powered sports cars.
A platform built for the electric era
On the technical front, Alpine is bringing several novel solutions. The advanced aluminium architecture is meant to guarantee the dynamic responsiveness the brand is known for, while two battery packs are positioned to preserve the 40/60 front-to-rear weight distribution of a true sports car. The 800-volt cell-to-pack technology, paired with high-energy-density cells, aims to cut both weight and charging times. At the rear, a new three-in-one e-axle combines two electric motors and a silicon carbide inverter, promising high torque and ultra-fast control. All-aluminium suspension and new integrated braking and steering systems complete the package.
The choice of Goodwood is no accident. First held in 1993, the Festival of Speed is the world’s largest open-air motoring gathering, bringing together more than 600 cars and motorcycles each year to trace the history of the automobile and motorsport. The highlight comes this Thursday 9 July with the “Alpine Moment”, a parade uniting the A110 FUTURE with iconic A110 models, before a demonstration run by the E20 Formula 1 car as the grand finale.
The current range is also on show, with the A290, the brand’s best-selling electric hot hatch, and the A390, the 470 hp five-seat sports fastback. On the driver front, Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto lead a five-strong delegation from the BWT Alpine Formula One Team, joined by Nina Gademan, Paul Aron and Alex Dunne, Alpine Academy and reserve drivers.
The symbolism is powerful: as the current A110 enters its final months of production, its electric successor steps into the spotlight. Whether it can carry the lightness and agility that built the berlinette’s reputation into the electric era remains to be seen.
