The 2025 summer tyre test, conducted in collaboration with ADAC, highlights the performance of 18 models with the dimension 225/40 R18. These are used primarily on compact cars. The tyres were tested on various criteria related to safety, driving comfort and environmental performance.
Eleven out of a total of 18 tyres received an overall rating of ‘good’, indicating solid and reliable performance. Four tyres were rated ‘satisfactory’, while two others received a ‘sufficient’ rating. One tyre model fell short of expectations and was rated ‘poor’. The results clearly show the differences in performance and help consumers to make an informed decision based on their individual requirements. The following is a detailed evaluation of the models tested.
Continental, Bridgestone and Michelin on the podium
With an overall grade of 1.8, the Continental SportContact 7 received the best rating. The model, which is characterised by optimal road grip and precise handling, performed very well on both dry and wet roads. The tyre delivers short braking distances, high stability and low abrasion. It showed slight weaknesses in terms of lateral aquaplaning.
In second place is the Bridgestone Potenza Sport with an overall grade of 1.9. It offers high traction, excellent handling and good performance on both dry and wet roads. The advantages of this tyre also include short braking distances and high stability. Its disadvantages are average energy efficiency and a high tyre weight.
With an overall grade of 1.9, the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 came in third. It is characterised by good traction, stable handling and a good environmental performance. Its strengths include short braking distances, low wear and low fuel consumption. However, the model seems to react sensitively to temperatures and has a tendency to hydroplaning.
In contrast, the Doublecoin DC-100 tyre received an overall grade of 5.5, or ‘unsatisfactory’. Its grip and handling leave something to be desired. The tyre performs very poorly on both dry and wet roads and also has a very long braking distance. However, its excellent environmental performance, very low fuel consumption and high mileage are positive aspects.
