12 home charging stations for electric vehicles were put under the microscope. The go-eCharger, the winner of this test, can also be ordered from the ACL Shop.

Go E-charger VS Wallbox Changers

Of the 12 models tested, two charging stations won the test hands down. The go-eCharger HOMEfix 11kW is even, with its advertised price of €675, the cheapest station in the test. As for the ultra-compact Wallbox Chargers Commander 2, it can boast of being the only one with a touch screen. However, its starting price is announced at €1300.

The two models are distinguished by their safe and reliable behaviour and the fact that the charge can be adjusted in real time via the mobile application, but also directly on the terminal. The Wallbox Chargers model also has the most comprehensive equipment. The goeCharger achieved the best result in terms of safety. In addition, the intelligent integration of LEDs around the charging socket is highly appreciated and allows the user to know the intensity of the selected current, for example when adjusting the charge.

Alfen Eve Single Sline VS PC Electric Wallbox GLB

The results are much less flattering for the Alfen Eve Single Sline and PC Electric Wallbox GLB wall terminals. They are the big losers. Their safety shortcomings are prohibitive. The integrated DC current monitoring device does not trip according to current standards. While with Alfen the triggering is too late, with PC Electric the protection device did not engage at all or too late. The risks of bodily injury are very real and automatically disqualify both brands.

The welcome mobile application

Five models can boast of a modern control thanks to an application on your smartphone. The ABB, Easee, go-eCharger, Innogy and Wallbox Chargers apps offer real added value compared to models without an app. Programmed charging, authorisation functions and the ability to view charging statistics are accessible and provide genuine convenience. Some apps even allow you to adjust the charge.

The Commander 2 from Wallbox Chargers has the distinction of having a 7-inch touch screen. What might seem like a simple gadget has proven to be both informative and particularly practical. The user interface is the same as the app, so there is no need to relearn how to use it. The only downside is that during the test, the screen was not optimally legible in direct sunlight, and it cannot be used with gloves on chilly mornings.
